# Geo API option detects the country by IP

<figure><img src="/files/95nUsA79Uaxl7waz2RR3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

After enabling **Auto Select Currency by Country**, YayCurrency will automatically detect the visitor’s location and switch to the appropriate currency.

#### What Happens When Enabled

* Detects the customer’s country based on their IP address
* Automatically assigns the corresponding currency
* Displays prices in the visitor’s **local currency**
* Falls back to the default currency if no match is found

#### Geo API

Choose how the system detects the visitor’s country:

* **Auto detect:** Uses the best available method with built-in fallback
* **WooCommerce Geolocation (Recommended):** Uses WooCommerce’s default geolocation
* **MaxMind Geolocation:** Requires setup in WooCommerce
* **IP2Location:** Uses an external IP-based service

#### Cache Method *(Auto detect only)*

This option is available only when **Auto detect** is selected.

Control how location data is cached to improve performance:

* **No cache:** Always perform real-time detection
* **Transient:** Store data using WordPress transient caching
* **File:** Store cached data in files on the server

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.yaycommerce.com/yaycurrency/configurations/settings/geo-api-option-detects-the-country-by-ip.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
